I am not allowed to buy more fabric until I use up the ton I already own. That’s the rule I’ve placed upon myself regarding fabric. I need to draw the line somewhere, no matter how hard it is. I might break the rule for this Alexander Henry, D’orsay fabric available at Sew LA. It’s so gorgeous and I want some. Someone please slap my hand and tell me to step away from the fabric.

Mollie Makes is my new favorite crafting magainze. Based in the UK, the magazine has such great ideas and crafting projects. If only the magainze wasn’t $11.99 per issue. Why can’t the US have more great crafting magazines?

Sew LA had a 35% off fabric and pattern sale yesterday, and let’s just say I took advantage of the deals. I picked up a yard of Little Apples fabric by Aneela Hoey and a yard an a half of Circa 1934 fabric by Como Cricket and an Amy Butler Messenger Bag pattern (bottom right). I am going to make Jason some brick pants out of the Michael Miller Brick fabric (bottom left).

I’ve been sewing up a storm lately!! A couple nights ago, I whipped up a pleated tote using gorgeous Nani Iro fabric. I think it turned out really nice. It’s a good bag for toting all of my stuff to work…. snacks, notebooks, magazines, etc.

I’m really loving Jay McCarroll’s Habitat collection for Free Spirit Fabrics. I made a really cute skirt out of Drop Cloth – Plum (top left hand corner). I love that his collections are colorful and modern and can be used for both clothing and home decor projects. It’s even better that he was the first winner of Project Runway!!!

Last week, I found a great tutorial for cold/hot therapy bags. My Grandma “M” used to always make barley heat/cold bags for my family, so I thought I would give the tutorial a try. I modified the instructions a little…..instead of rice, I used barley, and instead of making the outside cover washable, I sewed the cover shut. In my experience, the bags don’t get that dirty. Maybe, I just come from a clean family!!! I think these will be great for future gym aches and pains. Also, when it’s 100 degrees out it’s nice to put a cool pack on your neck…..or your head when you have a hangover (not that I ever get those!).

Last weekend, I picked up two tea towels for super cheap at Anthropologie ($2.96 each). The fabric is too beautiful to wipe dirty hands on, so instead I made throw pillows out of them. I bought some muslin for the backs, sewed them up and voila…..lovely affordable cushions.
