Back on February 3rd, my alma mater, the University of Alberta, set the world record for the largest dodgeball game EVER played!! 5000 people participated…..my mom was one of them….how fun!!
“You can do a lot of things to Canada — you can mock their giant inflatable beavers, even take away the fighting in hockey. But do not mess with them in dodgeball. The University of Alberta again stands tall today, as it has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for most people participating in a game of dodgeball — 4,979.
It was a heady time for the University of Alberta in Feb. of 2010, when 1,745 students gathered to break the Guinness dodgeball record. Then, the Dodgeball Cold War struck, as first the Rochester Institute of Technology (2,136 people) and then UC Irvine (4,000) broke the record, both in 2011. But U of Alberta is now King of Dodgeball again. They do not receive the giant, gleaming Patches O’Houlihan Trophy for this, because there is no such thing. But there should be.
While this may be a novelty in the U.S., dodgeball is big in Canada — many schools include it as part of the recreation curriculum.” – NBC Sports
